Position Summary

The Performance Improvement Consultant provides process and performance improvement expertise in addressing clinical opportunities to meet core requirements for the American College of Surgeons, Children's Surgery Verification Quality Improvement Program to achieve Level 1 Children's Surgery Center verification. They formulate, drive and lead projects using process improvement methodologies (DMAIC, Six Sigma, PDSA, Lean), project management strategies, facilitation, leadership, and change management skills to achieve improvements in either operational or clinical outcomes. They work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to strategize, develop and achieve goals, lead teams in the use of improvement techniques and methodologies from project inception through implementation and sustainment of results. This position works collaboratively with the Quality and Patient Safety Department to identify and address patient safety and quality gaps and develop performance improvement initiatives to drive results in the Perioperative Division. The position reports to the Performance Improvement Manager and works closely with the Children's Surgery Program Manager and the Surgical Director of Quality

Qualifications
License/Certification/Registration:
* Lean Six Sigma belt certification preferred, not required

Education:
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred), Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:
* In-depth, proven understanding and use of improvement methodologies such as DMAIC, Six Sigma, PDSA, Lean required.
* 1-2 years of experience in healthcare; Perioperative and/or pediatric experience preferred.
* and 5 years or more of professional experience in management, and/or operational analysis work.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Ability to effectively define and scope projects to allow for effective project execution and delivery of data-driven outcomes
* Strong analytic skills including data analysis, critical thinking, and ability to effectively deliver data results in a way that speaks to a non-data audience
* Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint), advanced email program skills, proficient in data analytics tools such as SPSS, QI Charts/Macros, Minitab
* Self-directed, shows initiative, and trusted to work autonomously
* Articulated understanding of clinical processes and patient flow within the healthcare system, including ability to solve problems with clinical operations and problem solve to implement reliable systems that enhance quality and safety
* Proven consultative/presentation communication skills with the ability to present to audiences from bedside to board level
* Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills with multidisciplinary team members demonstrated by active listening skills - paraphrasing, checking for understanding; promoting conflict resolution, and demonstrates integrity
* Maintains positive working relationships and engenders trust with supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to obtain cooperation and support in assigned projects
