This position exists to provide water resources engineering services for the design, construction, and maintenance of highways in the Metro area of MnDOT Metro District. This position also exists to provide water resources engineering squad management and project management for Water Resources Engineering lead projects.

The responsibilities of this position include:

Complete preliminary and final drainage design on urban and rural roadway sections, perform storm water treatment design, and obtain water resources related permits from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Watershed Districts, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Lead, direct, and aid squad members. Perform project scoping and cost estimating on preservation projects.

Provide project management for Water Resources Engineering lead projects. Review reconveyance requests and consultant prepared construction plans for drainage and water resources concerns to insure MnDOT requirements are satisfied. Resolve drainage and sediment and erosion control issues.

  • Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through Comity (Reciprocity). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
  • Three (3) years of post-registration engineering experience (Engineer Senior level or equivalent) that demonstrates experience and a full understanding and knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, urban and rural drainage design, stormwater treatment and permitting for highway design ( i.e., full understanding and experience with the water resources related regulatory permit requirements for construction projects including MPCA, Watershed District/Watershed Management Organization, DNR, and COE and the process for obtaining them).
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: civil or environmental engineering.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy in MicroStation/AutoCAD, GeoPAK, GIS, HydroCAD, XP-SWMM and other hydrologic/hydraulic software
  • Project management knowledge and experience along with leadership qualities, professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to provide direction to squad members and work well with others.
  • A valid Class D Driver's License with no major traffic convictions in the past five years.
