DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

International Services provides facilitation assistance to all international arriving customers processing through the Federal Inspection process and manages all common use facilities with our primary focus of maintaining compliance with all federal, state and local rules and regulations pertaining to the airport. The International Services team serves a wide scope of internal and external business partners including, but not limited to the traveling public, airlines, commercial transportation providers, regulatory agencies, tenants, contractors, City departments and HAS cost centers.

The purpose of the Maintenance Mechanic III is to prevent mechanical failure of equipment, to identify and correct safety hazards, and inspect, repair, clean and maintain several types of equipment: pumps, miscellaneous rotating and reciprocating equipment. Work with carpet cleaning equipment, scrubbers, burnishers and various types of custodial equipment. Performs scheduled or unscheduled maintenance, repairs and modifications, along with preventative maintenance on electro-mechanical equipment, structures, facilities and systems. Repair, refurbish, and maintain all types of pumps, equipment, machinery, hydraulic, oil, gas, diesel, reciprocating and rotary equipment. Additional maintenance activities include sweeper, scrubbers, burnishers, and various types of janitorial equipment. Must be willing and available to work shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays. "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required."

The Maintenance Mechanic III duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Installs mechanical equipment and components.
  • Repairs, refurbishes and maintains several types of pumps (i.e. hydraulic, oil, gas, diesel) and miscellaneous rotating and reciprocating equipment and machinery.
  • Operates vehicles to and from work sites.
  • Repairs and maintains equipment and parts. Practice equipment and parts conservation.
  • Performs additional maintenance activities such as painting, a/c repairs, carpentry, carpet, plumbing, concrete and roofing repairs as in general building maintenance.
  • Rehabilitates and monitors equipment, facilities, and systems (i.e. elevators, escalators, automatic doors, ticket dispenser's electric gates, a/c and heating equipment).
  • Provides preventive maintenance to equipment, buildings, facilities and systems.
  • May lead and train lower-level personnel.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Performing these duties will involve lifting, pulling or pushing objects; observing and differentiating details; operating city vehicles; operating power and hand tools; applying specialized information; and working in hot, cold, noisy environments; dealing with people in tense situations and working as a member of the team; may be required to lift up to eighty (80) pounds. Walking and standing for extended periods of time. Must be willing and available to work shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Class C Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants with the ability to read blueprints as they relate to repair and replacement of major components, accessories, and subsystems. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with subordinates, supervisors and the public.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
