As UA's Buyer III, you will be responsible for external procurements of medium and high complexity in support of multiple high-tech avionics production programs. Managed products may include components and part numbers sold by distribution suppliers. The position may support multiple locations across UASC as required. This assignment involves significant interaction with Planning, Engineering, Quality and Shipping.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ability to request quotes and place Purchase Orders of low to medium complexity and process a high volume of Purchase Orders.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform in a dynamic, fast paced, changing environment.
  • DOD procurement experience and knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR/DFARS).
  • Ability to seek and qualify alternate suppliers. Developing sources of supply where vendors and preferred suppliers are inadequate.
  • Ability to lead supplier negotiations (price, schedule, supplier exceptions to contractual flow down requirements, and terms and conditions).
  • Ability to conduct post-award management in accordance with company directives and work instructions.
  • Ability to handle multiple decisions based on workload dispersion and program priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills as well as the ability to plan strategically while supporting daily tactical and detailed activities.
  • Proficiency to perform and comprehend price analyses, source selection/justification.
  • Ability to filter information from multiple sources to drive innovative solutions.
  • Effective at influencing others.
  • Knowledge of supply chain processes related to inventory growth/or and reduction efforts.
  • Knowledge of franchise distributors.
  • Understanding of different methods to purchase inventory such as long-term agreements, blanket purchase agreements, Kanban, dock-to-stock, in-plant supplier store, etc.
  • Negotiates contracts where losses occurring through errors of judgment would involve large dollar amounts.
  • May provide work leadership and train lower-level buyers.
  • This is a senior level non-management position.

Education and/or Experience

  • Requires a college degree preferably in a business or supply chain field.
  • 5+ years of buying experience in a high-tech avionics manufacturing production environment.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs as well as MRP/ERP systems experience focused on supplier management processes, Purchase Orders, and deliveries.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal customers and suppliers.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
