Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health.

Summary:

The Sanford-Burnham-Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP) is seeking an experienced and self-driven proteomics/glycoproteomics expert to join our highly collaborative and supportive team. The desired candidates would have experience in the field of mass spectrometry- based proteomic/glycoproteomic data acquisition, management, and will be trained as needed in bioinformatic interpretation of the data in collaboration with faculty experts in both proteomics and bioinformatics.

The initial work of the successful candidate will be developed in the context of grants aimed at identifying the molecular basis of disease. The successful candidate will work in a multi-team environment and carry out proteomic, glycomic and glycoproteomic analysis and have access to state-of-the-art instrumentation at the Proteomics Core Facility at SBP including automated sample preparation systems and Orbitrap instruments. There will be opportunities for independent research and publication for career development. In this role, you will manage multiple glycoproteomics projects spanning sample preparation, data analysis and interpretation. You will be a major player in a team that will build, organize, curate and maintain a glycoproteomic database that is being used to identify the origins and pathogenesis of multiple diseases. In addition, metabolic labeling using stable isotope-tagged monosaccharides for glycomic analysis will be used to study multiple congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop and execute proteomic and glycoproteomic experiments.
  • Analyze and interpret proteomic and glycoproteomic MS data acquired by DDA, DIA and TMT using state-of-the art bioinformatic workflows.
  • Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting LC-MS instrumentation and perform rigorous routine instrument quality control steps.
  • Coordinate data collection and integration across multiple experiments.
  • Collaborate with multiple labs to design and execute projects for determining changes in protein abundance and glycosylation in disease progression.
  • Prepare reports, co-author publications and present results at meetings and/or conferences. Contribute data to grant applications.
  • Assists other researchers on publication of research findings.

Required Experience:

  • Ph.D in biological sciences, chemistry, or analytical chemistry. Prefer least 3 years of proteomics or glycoproteomics experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of the operation and maintenance of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry systems, especially Thermo Orbitraps.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience with complex sample preparation for mass spectrometry workflows.
  • Extensive experience in quantitative mass spectrometry-based strategies for glycoproteomic, glycomic and proteomic analyses. And solid hands-on experience with computational tools for proteomics data analysis including Byonic or pGlyco or MSFragger, MaxQuant or ProteomeDiscoverer or Spectromine and Spectronaut or DIA-NN.
  • Experience with bioinformatics platforms in data analysis across physiological systems spanning gene ontology and metabolism, additional training provided.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of modern molecular biology and biochemistry techniques such as chromatography, transfection, Western blots, and immunoprecipitation.
  • Knowledge in Top-Down proteomics and its data analysis.
  • Advanced R programming, including RShiny applications.
  • Some basic understanding of R programming.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Work positively and enthusiastically as part of a team
