ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Leverman will supervise the dredge crew assigned to their shift and operate the dredge in a safe and productive manner. The Leverman at Callan Marine is a working position, where you will be expected to operate the dredge during most of your time. Additional duties may include, but will not be limited to, running a boat, operating equipment, and/or performing maintenance duties, with the primary focus on safe overall operations and shift supervision of your assigned crew.

This position will be under the direct supervision of the Dredge Captain

On projects, this position also reports to project management, with respect to client requirements, dredging and disposal area requirements (these may include dredge assignments, dredging depths/widths, safety, and reporting).

On equipment matters, this position also reports to the Technical Manager, who is responsible for the repair and maintenance program of all equipment, inventory, and spares.

• Supervision of the crew on your assigned shift, to include boatman, mates, deckhands, equipment operators, and any other disciplines that are part of the dredge’s assigned crew.

• Conducting JSAs (Job Safety Analysis) on your shift

• Conducting monthly drills on your shift

• Proper accounting of time for dredging operations (Leverman’s Logs)

• Proper accounting of time for dredge crew (Timesheets)

• Ensure dredge is maintained in accordance with the maintenance program

• Keep inventory of spares and consumables

• Performs other related duties as assigned

• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The employee must have:

• A minimum of 10 years of dredging experience and 1-3 years of supervisory experience

• Open water experience

• Understanding of dredge processes

• Understanding of key equipment involved in the dredging process

• Ran 30”dredge or larger

• Understanding of maintenance needs of the equipment

• Ability to work effectively and efficiently with little to no supervision

• Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.

• Must be reliable and motivated.

• Ability to obtain TWIC.

• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.

• Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results driven.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, a Leverman must also be capable of:

• Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.

• Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.

• Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.

• Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.

• Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.

• Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.

• Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.

• Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
