Overview

SLS is seeking an experienced Quality Control (QC) Manager to join a fast growing and dynamic Federal Services Division in pursuit of heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout the Southwestern United States. The QC Manager will be responsible for managing the quality program for the project to ensure all construction meets or exceeds quality standards outlined in the plans and specifications. The QC Manager will primarily report to the Project Superintendent, but also the Project Manager.

The Federal Services Division has a growing backlog of civil infrastructure projects across the Southwestern United States and is aggressively pursuing additional project opportunities with federal clients such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), and U.S. Department of State (DOS).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Quality Control Manager reporting primarily to the Project Superintendent.
  • Manage and maintain a healthy client relationship while protecting company interests.
  • Become intimately familiar with all plans and specifications that govern the project.
  • Develop and implement the Quality Control Plan (QC Plan) to ensure contract compliance.
  • Provide information sessions with all stakeholders to communicate QC Plan expectations.
  • Perform requisite quality inspections in accordance with the USACE 3-phase quality system.
  • Proactively inspect in-process work to ensure contract conformance and minimize rework.
  • Establish inspection protocols for off-site work to ensure high quality standards are enforced.
  • Manage the efforts of all 3rd party testing and inspection companies supporting the project.
  • Review all submittals to ensure compliance with contract specifications before submission.
  • Perform internal/external audits as necessary to ensure compliance with the QC Plan.
  • Maintain and manage a RFI and Non-Conformance Registers to resolve all construction issues.
  • Submit meaningful and information daily/weekly/monthly QC Reports.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of QC Plans for future projects.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years as QC professional on construction projects valued $10M+ required.
  • 2-yr or 4-yr Degree in construction or engineering related fields strongly desired
  • Experience working on federal project with DOD/USACE/NAVFAC strongly desired.
  • USACE CQM certification strongly desired. Must attain within 30 days of hiring.
  • 30-hour OSHA certification strongly desired. Must attain within 30 days of hiring.
  • Proficiency with a computer and with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel) required.
  • Ability to speak, read and write fluent English required.
  • Ability to successfully pass background/security check required.

Physical Demands:

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 40 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
  • Ability to work outside in and around construction sites safely.
