ENGINEER DESIGNER | TRANSPORTATION SUMMARY: Designs civil engineering projects such as highways, streets, bridges, culverts, and drainage facilities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

• Reviews rough sketches, drawings, and other engineering data received from clients, Civil Engineer, Engineer Intern, or Project Manager;

• Attends meetings, interacts with clients and government agency employees, and publicly represents the firm in a professional manner;

• Creates detailed engineering designs, prepares construction drawings, and requests the assistance of Civil Engineering Technicians in the preparation of said drawings for proposed improvements such as roads, bridges, and drainage systems under the direction of the Civil Engineer, Engineer Intern, or Project Manager;

• Assists with the writing of engineering contracts, construction contracts, and construction specifications, performs quantity take-offs, and prepares contractor bid packages;

• Maintains proficiency in automated design programs, provides assistance to other professional staff, and operates production equipment;

• Works closely with the Civil Engineer, Engineer Intern, Project Manager, support staff, and other team members to design Civil Engineering projects; and

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or five to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Internet software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid driver license.
