MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY:

The Senior Accounting Clerk-GL maintains the general ledger and performs various financial reporting functions including reconciliation of intermediate and basic general ledger accounts, preparation of monthly sales tax return, assistance with payroll processing and annual reporting, processing payments for certain MTA subsidiaries and accounts, preparation of Mass Child Financial statements and preparation of certain budget data and financial analysis for all Massachusetts Teachers Association entities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assists with the preparation of monthly financial statements, versus budget, including financial reporting packages for Division Management.

  • Prepare monthly sales tax return including calculation and prep of Internal and External print billings, associated journal entries, complete Monthly Sales Tax Summary, issuance of all print invoices and collection follow up.
  • Calculates and records general ledger journal entries and reconciles intermediate and basic GL accounts.
  • Primary contact for Mass Child financial information including Balance Sheet and Income Statement preparation, coordination, and donation reporting.
  • Processing and payment of VOTE/NEPAC and IEPAC invoices.
  • Assists with the monthly financial statement prep, including financial reporting packages for Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Management.
  • Distributes monthly financial reporting to MTA division Management and acts as primary contact for questions.
  • Review the uncashed check report. Research check status, prepare letters to uncashed check recipients and manage follow up.
  • Maintains confidentiality of Association records.
  • Assist with payroll process including but not limited to Regional Reps and Retirement Consultants and Sick Leave Buy Back and Vacation Statements.
  • Deposit remote deposit miscellaneous cash receipts-including STD/LTD /PFML and Misc A/R payments and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Provides information in response to inquiries of members, vendors, and employees.
  • Primary contact for Mass Education Association Financial Statement Prep and reporting
  • Review monthly AMEX statement, reconcile invoice back up to statement and process for payment.
  • Process monthly rent payments and maintain Excel tracking sheet.
  • Assists with audit preparation.
  • Cross train responsibilities with Senior Payroll and Senior AP Clerks and assist Finance Team as needed, based on department workload.
  • Serve as substitute for other department staff as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting /Business or comparable experience
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in financial operations, including accounting and control, financial systems including accounts payable, general ledger and payroll. financial accounting and budget experience.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to deal with the public.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and extreme accuracy.
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Occasional travel is required to MTA offsite meetings.
  • A strong work ethic and adherence to departmental and organizational financial and operational ethical standards.
  • Proven ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced financial environment. Nights and weekends may be required.
