Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a full time Pipe Welder Specialist in National City, CA.

Summary: This position welds pipe and other metal components together to design specifications or repair products, such as machine parts, shipboard equipment, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using SWRMC approved welding and brazing techniques with a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates fabrication shop and machine shop machinery and equipment.

  • Performs sockets weld (P-14 & P-15) joints designed of copper nickel, stainless steel, Carbon Steel and aluminum.

  • Performs butt weld (P-2 & P-3) joints designed of copper nickel, stainless steel, Carbon Steel and aluminum.

  • Weld Consumable insert butt (P-73) joints in stainless steel

  • Welds bi-metallic socket (P-14) and butt (P-2 & P-3) joints Copper nickel/carbon steel, Copper nickel/Copper and stainless steel/carbon steel

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements

  • Fits and tacks parts together in preparation for welding

  • Performs precise fitting work on components

  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.

  • Positions piping component parts to obtain required configurations and positions to ensure conformance with specifications for welding

  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.

  • Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal piping segments, using processes as specified for job.

  • Provides welding support certified in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) and Gas Metal Arc Welding Pulse (GMAW-P) using 5356 filler wire.

  • Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.

  • Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.

  • Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

  • Examines work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straight edges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

  • Operates tools of the trade – sawzalls, grinders, and various other tools

  • Ensures shop safety and housekeeping are followed

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 10 years work related experience

  • Minimum 3 years specific experience as a qualified production Pipe welder

  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to military and government installations and private shipyards

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English

  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)

  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Must Qualify for Craftsman PQS 301

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Production pipe welder experience while in the Navy or working as a civilian production welder supporting Navy ship repair or new construction

  • Completion of a formal course of vocational or Navy welding training and certification

  • Familiar with the requirements of NAVSEA Technical publications 248, 278 and 2035

Pay Range

The pay range for this is $26.98 to $39.17 per hour. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, education and experience.

  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional and loud noises

  • Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (onboard ships).

  • Able to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight.

  • Must have manual and finger dexterity; able to grasp, manipulate, assemble small objects.

  • Able to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

  • Able to perceive and distinguish normal range of colors.

  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
