We are seeking a talented Mechatronics Engineer to join our Prototyping Division at our Hampton, Virginia headquarters. The Mechatronics Engineer, Prototyping will integrate mechanical engineering, electronics, computer control, and information technology to create functional prototypes that enhance product functionality and innovation. This role is pivotal in developing complex systems that require synchronized interactions between different technological domains.

Responsibilities

  • System Design and Integration: Design and develop integrated systems that combine mechanical components with electronic controls. Focus on optimizing the interaction between software and hardware components.
  • Prototyping and Fabrication: Build prototypes incorporating both mechanical and electronic elements. Utilize a range of fabrication methods, including 3D printing and CNC machining, to create working models of mechatronic systems.
  • Programming and Control Systems: Develop and implement control algorithms and software to manage the operations of mechanical systems enhanced by electronic controls.
  • Testing and Validation: Conduct comprehensive testing to validate the functionality of mechatronic systems. Analyze performance data to ensure systems meet design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Collaboration Across Disciplines: Work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration of all system components. Participate in project meetings to provide insights and updates on system development.
  • Documentation and Technical Writing: Prepare detailed documentation for system designs, test procedures, and project reports. Maintain records that are critical for ongoing maintenance and future modifications.
  • Continuous Learning and Improvement: Stay updated on advancements in mechatronics and related fields. Implement innovative technologies and methods to improve prototype design and functionality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience and portfolio of successfully completed projects.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electronic systems and their integration.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for mechanical design and software development tools for programming control systems.
  • Experience with sensors, actuators, and controllers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and innovatively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
