Job Summary

DEED's State Services for the Blind (SSB) division has been serving blind, visually impaired, and Deafblind Minnesotans since 1923. It does so with a staff of 110 dedicated personnel, over 650 skilled volunteers, an active State Rehabilitation Council for the Blind, and a host of community partners. Each year SSB assists thousands in leading full, active, and productive lives.

The Account Clerk provides accounting and administrative support to SSB's Business Enterprises Program (BEP) director, staff, and approximately twenty-three (23) BEP licensed blind vendors. This position is responsible for the receipt, facilitation, reconciliation, and input of all BEP licensed blind vendor monthly ledgers. This position provides support to the Account Clerk, Senior as needed.

Specifically, the Account Clerk:
  • Receives, processes, and tracks monthly ledgers and accounts receivables, ensuring accuracy and following DEED, SSB, and BEP policies and procedures, applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and contracts/agreements.
  • Sends default letters in instances where vendors are not compliant with their ledger and payment obligations.
  • Creates monthly reconciliation reports which tracks all financial activity related to the monthly ledgers, set-aside payments, and defaults.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To receive credit for your education and experience, your resume should clearly describe how you meet each minimum and/or preferred qualification listed, including dates of employment.

Skill in:
  • Accounting sufficient to reconcile differences between invoices, receipts and purchase orders, and assess needs based on data and events affecting the account.
  • Analyzing, interpreting, reconciling, and preparing financial information, records, and reports; identify errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
  • Data entry sufficient to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Using business grammar, spelling, and punctuation to write, develop and edit reports, letters, procedures, presentations, and other documents.
  • Customer service sufficient to answer questions and advise customers of program policies, procedures, and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of clerical experience performing accounts receivable/payable functions and creating profit and loss statements in a business/finance/accounting setting.

Ability to obtain and maintain Authority for Local Purchasing (ALP).

Knowledge and experience with using StateWide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) or other accounting or procurement systems.

Experience working with individuals with disabilities, including individuals who are blind, low-vision, or DeafBlind.
