The Senior Manager will lead the Program Management Office (PMO) and leverage its capabilities to ensure Crane consistently achieves new product growth targets through robust New Product Development (NPD) project and portfolio management processes. Your role is a direct influence on our company’s ability to deliver our future promises and commitments to current and emerging customers.

  • Manage Project Leader and coach a team of project leaders, including those reporting to other parts of the organization, to execute key projects in Crane’s NPD portfolio. Provide guidance to project teams on how to operate with a high-performance mindset to achieve outstanding results.
  • Develop, propose, and enable investment scenarios to maximize the company’s new product growth by partnering with stakeholders and peers across functions. Achieve vertical and horizontal alignment toward business goals by overseeing structured project and portfolio reviews.
  • Implement tools, processes, governance models, templates, and communication mechanisms for flawless execution of the NPD funnel. Create linkages between technical and commercial workstreams to accelerate projects.
  • Oversee operation of Crane Currency’s stage gate process (PMF) by aligning key functions to its governing principles, providing tools and training, facilitating meetings, and ensuring informed stakeholder decisions.
  • Drive project execution across the portfolio by providing thought leadership in both technical and commercial aspects of projects. Provide recommendations on best allocation of production and R&D resources and assets to maximize portfolio vitality/valuation.
  • Continuously improve the PMF process to further enable market adoption of Crane’s new products while ensuring robust product design and manufacturing principles are being demonstrated across the NPD portfolio.
  • Oversee or support R&D department processes such as budget and spend management, project tracking and reviews, capital expenditure tracking. Contribute to overall growth and efficiency of the department.
  • Partner with Crane’s IP Team to ensure internal invention disclosures and corresponding patent or trade secret protections are being processed for prioritized NPD projects.
  • Enable future R&D and NPD projects by establishing and managing a digital archive of kernel knowledge, internal technical reports, project presentations, on-boarding collateral, training materials, etc.

Knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, or Business Management with commensurate technical experience
  • Certified Project Management Professional
  • 5 years of experience as a product development scientist or engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of experience leading project teams and direct reports in a new product development organization.
  • Thorough experience with development and delivery of profitable and high-quality new products.
  • Solid understanding of stage gate project management processes.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel and PPM software such as MS Project, Jira, Smartsheet, etc.

Preferred:

  • Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, Agile Certified Practitioner, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in setting up and managing a PMO within an industrial manufacturing company.
  • Successful leadership of cross-functional teams achieving project completions in a global environment.
  • Demonstrated influence on an organization, including senior leadership, regarding NPD priorities.
  • Project management experience related to developing new technology systems and software to support new product development launches.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, and ability to coach others to do the same.
  • Experience in managing multifaceted R&D budgets, and in justifying/implementing CapEx spend.
  • Ability to translate technical decisions/strategies into business terms and implications.
